Real image are those images which are formed on a surface (or we can say same side of any surface) and always inverted but virtual images are formed behind the surface and their rays doesn't meet in real but seems to meet.Virtual images are always erect. Eg for Real images is Projection in Cinema Hall Eg for Virtual images is Reflection in mirror.. Hope it helps you understand ?..

A image which can be obtain on screen is called real image. And a image which cannot be obtain on screen is called virtual image.

Real image form on the same side of mirror and always inverted but virtual image form behind the mirror except few cases and always erect
