In chapter alternating current, when applied voltage is equal to back emf it means net voltage is zero, consequently current should also be zero but it is not zero. Why?

The net voltage is 0 all the times but not the instantaneous. It's flutuating and so is the current. A one moment is + ve and other -ve so that net V becomes 0. Same is valid for current.
