JURISDICTION = the area over which someone has legal authority. It is usually determined in terms of geographical boundaries (TERRITORIAL WATER) and certain kind of subjects (union list). FEDERALISM = a system of governance wherein power is shared between the central authority and the constituent units. It is a form of power sharing between different levels of government and is also referred to as VERTICAL POWER SHARING.
