It maintains the pH of our mouth and controls the production of acids. When the pH of our mouth goes below 5.5, the bacteria in the mouth gets activated and acids are produced. These acids neutralise calcium phosphate (more accurately, calcium hydroxyapetite), a basic salt which makes up our enamel. This leads to tooth decay. Therefore, to prevent this situation, Brushing twice in a day is advised.
