Under this system, one organ of the government keeps the check over te entire. None of the organs can exercise unlimited powers. This keeps a balance of power sharing among various institutions.

The system of check and balance is called horizontal division of power. When the power is shared between different components of the government such as legislature , executive , judiciary . Different levels of government are allowed to exercise the same level of power. This system is called check and balance. As it ensures that none of the organs can enjoy unlimited powers. One organ checks another.

It is the name given to the arrangement of power sharing between different organs of government. In the system of checks and balances, each organ checks upon the power of the other organs and thereby, a balance among these organs ie, JUDICIARY, LEGISLATURE and EXECUTIVE. Eg :- Though judjes are appointed by the executive, they have been provided the right to question the authority of the executive when required.
