3) Reasons for land degradation in India :- a) DEFORESTATION = Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chhatisgarh, Jharkand. b) OVERGRAZING = Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat. c) OVERIRRIGATION = Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh. d) MINERAL PROCESSING = Grinding limestone in cement industry and soapstone in ceramic stone has caused a reduction in the infiltration capacity of the soil and has generated huge amount of mineral dust in the atmosphere. e) INDUSTRIAL WASTE = Improper discharge leads to degradation of soil infiltration capacity as well as overall health.

2) Land use pattern :- 1) Forest. 2) Land not available for cultivation - a) Barren and waste land. b) Land put for non agricultural purposes like Roads and railways. 3) Other uncultivated land (excluding FALLOW) - a) Culturable wasteland (left uncultivated for > 5 agricultural years). b) Grazing land and permanent pastures. c) Land under mischalleneous tree crops and groves. 4) Fallow land (can be current fallow or other than current fallow). 5) Net sown area - Land sown more than once in a year + Net sown area = Gross cropped area.

1) The various needs for which land is used in a region is known as LAND UTILISATION. These include ROADS, RAILWAYS, CULTIVATION, NOMADING, CONSTRUCTION, MINING, etc.
