After independence in 1948, The Sinhala leaders took virtue of their majority and established their control over the to be formed government. As a result, the government which came up started adopting majoritarian measures like :- 1) 1956 act = Declared Sinhala as official language of Srilanka. 2) Policy = favouring Sinhala applications for seats in universities and government jobs. 3) Constitution = Amendments such that the constitution protected and fostered Buddhism (majority religion of Sinhala community.).
