What makes the land use planning essential? (i) Continuous use of land for various activities over a long period of time, without taking proper measures to conserve and manage has, resulted in land degradation. (ii) This in turn has serious impact on society and environment.

1) Deforestation = Jharkand, Chhatisgarh, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh. 2) Overgrazing = Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra. 3) Overirrigation = Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh. 4) Mineral Processing. 5) Unorganized dumping of industrial wastes. Land use planning ensures that everyone legally gets a fair share of land.
