Agriculture is the most labour absorbing sector in India because of the following reasons:

  • Agriculture sector is the primary sector of Indian economy. More than half of the working population is employed in agricultural sector.
  • The secondary and tertiary sectors still failed to provide more employment opportunities as to a majority of the Indian people, so the people are forced to engage themselves in agriculture.
  • It provides labour to many people in the workforce like farmers, transporters, industrialists etc.

1) Not enough job oppurtunities were made available in the secondary and tertiary sectors. 2) DISGUISED/UNDER employment = It is a situation in which marginal productivity is zero or negative. It is a type of unemployment wherein more people are employed than required. Even if we remove a few people out, the production process would not be affected.
