One of the most important social reforms of the Jacobins was the abolition of slavery in French colonies. The slave trade began in the 17th century. The Convention in 1794 said to free all slaves in France. 10 years later, Napoleon reintroduced slavery. Plantation owners now understood their freedom & Slavery was finally abolished in French colonies in 1848.
