The cause of Matilda's ruin was her greed. She was careless, selfish and was so coward thta she tried to avoid the mistake she made by lies which brought ruins. Firstly she should have understood her situation and should not crave for expensive jewellery. Secondly she should be more careful not to loose things which belongs to others. Thirdly she should have told her friend that she lost her necklace. Then she and her husband would not have to go under so much hardship to replace a replica with a real diamond necklace.

The cause of Matilda’s ruin was her dissatisfaction with whatever life offered her. She was always unhappy. She felt that she was born for all the delicacies and luxuries of life. She disliked being in her current circumstances. She could have avoided this ruin by being content with whatever she had.
