Given: Number of moles of gas = 1 Temperature = 500K To find: The amount of work done and heat absorbed in the process. Solution: Work done in an isothermal process is: W = nRT ln(V2/ V1) W = 1 X 8.3 X 500 ln(3V/ V) W = 4150 ln3 W = 4150 X 1.1 W = 4565 J Heat absorbed in the process = -4565 J because the work done by the gas will go into the heat absorbed by the surrounding. The work done by the gas in the process is 4565 J and the heat absorbed by the surrounding is -4565 J.
