No Mr.Herriot did not keep the dog permanently but he wished so bcoz as Mrs.Pumpherey would send eggs, wine bottles and brandy thinking that those would give tricki energy.....But instead of tricki Mr.Herriot enjoyed this....So he was wishing that tricki could be the permanent patient for him so that he could enjoy the meal times........ Hoping that is explained briefly about ur qn.

He only keeps the dog because the dog were had a bout of vomiting , and he refused to eat even his favourite food.And Mr. herriot hospitalised triki when he was fine Mr. Herriot call mr. Pumpry to back her dog to her home
