Gandhiji started the non-cooperation movement of 1921 due to the following reasons: (a) Britishers introduced the repressive rowlatt act in 1919. This act authorised the Britishers to arrest any Indian without a warrant which was severely critised by the Indians. (b) Jallianwala Bagh massacre was one of the painful incidents that made Indians revolt against the Britishers. ( c) Gandhiji wanted to support the khilafat movement through this movement to achieve hindu - muslim unity.
