As John wanted to distract her wife from that ghost Helen as He knew that Lavinia was too shrewd as she even got frightened after seeing a mouse in her house then how can she overcame from the fear of that a ghost was living in her home. That's why John was letting her wife to go to her grandmother's home at that time.
