Which element loss the electron from outermost orbit for becomes stable is called electropositive. Which element gain the electron from outermost orbit for becoming stable is called electronegative.

The elements which gain electrons to complete their octet is called electronegative elements. This property is found in non - metals . And this property of gaining electrons in order to complete their octet is called electronegativity. And in metals this is vice versa. The property of loosing electrons by metals in order to fulfill their octet is called electropositivity.
