Because carbon has a smaller size and is able to hold the atoms strongly but silicon having a larger size is unable to do so

Carbon form variety of bond because : 1. Catenation: It is the unique ability of carbon in which carbon can form bonds in the form of long chain, branched chain and ring chain. Also, the carbon atins can be bonded by single, double and triple bond between them. 2. Tetravalency : carbon has the ability to form bonds with carbon atoms and other monovalent elements like hydrogen, fluorine, oxygen . 3. Small size : the small size of carbon makes it exceptionally stable.
