The upward movement of water and minerals from root to different part of plant is called ascent of sap. Ascent of sap is in the xylem tissue of plants is the upward movement of water from roots to the crown . High temperature, atmospheric pressure, wind velocity low atmospheric humidity influence the ascent of sap as it is transpiration . Soil water also decrease the ascent of sap by absorbing the water .

Absorbed water from the soil also contains dissolved minerals (nitrates, phosphates, etc.) and hence it is called sap.

The upward movement of water and dissolved mineral salts from roots upwards to the leaves and other aerial parts is called Ascent of Sap. (It is called the sap as it contains many dissolved minerals). This water is conducted upwards to the leaves through xylem. Ascent of sap involves root pressure and transpiration pull.
