Whenever it is given (with respect to) just do division between the element which is written before (with respect to)/the element after (with respect to) this is the magical trick..try to solve with this method you will get the answer.

When we say refractive index of diamond is 2.42, it means light is travelling from rarer to denser medium, and speed of light in air (vacuum) is 2.42 times the speed of light in diamond.
