The honeybee sting contains an acid ,and for neutralizing it we use a mild base on the stung area . Sodium bicarbonate also known as baking soda neutralizes the acid and gives us releif from the burning sensation. Hence ,we use it ....as a household remedy.

Yogita Ingle 5 years ago

Bee stings are acidic in nature, which is why a household remedy for a bee sting is baking soda or sodium bicarbonate, which is a basic substance. Sodium hydrogen carbonate (baking soda) is used as an antacid because it neutralises excess acid present in the stomach. It reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid to produce carbon dioxide gas, which is used in fire extinguishers.
