    Cot^2 theta + 1 = cosec^2 theta (3/x)^2 + 1 = (3x)^2 9/x^2 + 1= 9x^2 9/x^2 - 9x^2 = -1 9(1/x^2 - x^2) = -1 3(1/x^2 - x^2) = -1/3 Therefore, 3(x^2 - 1/x^2) = 1/3
