As we know that magnesium is a metal and metals form basic oxide while sulphur is a non metal and non metal form acidic oxide here we burn magnesium ribbon in air and we get magnesium oxide magnesium oxide turns red litmus blue which tells us that magnesium oxide is basic and in Sulphur we burn sulphur in air it reacts with the oxygen of air to form an acidic oxide cold sulphur dioxide a solution of Sulphur dioxide in water turns blue Litmus to Red this shows that Sulphur dioxide is acidic in nature
