The reasons for the alienation of Tamil People :-
1) The clause of the Act of 1956 introduced by the Sri Lankan Government made the Tamil people alienated in the country. According to the Act, Sinhalese was declared the only national language of Sri Lanka. The Tamil people felt that none of the major political parties were sensitive to their language and culture.
2) They also felt that the constitution and government policies denied them equal political rights.
3) Discrimination against them in getting jobs and other opportunities by ignoring their interests was another reason of their alienation.
4) The Sri Lankan Government followed preferential policies that favoured the Sinhali applicants for university positions and government jobs.
5) The Constitution stipulated that the State shall protect and foster Buddhism.
