Diffusion is the process by which water moves inward to outward or outward to inward. Whereas, osmosis is the movement of water through a SEMIPERMEABLE MEMBRANE.

Diffusion is the process of movement of a solid, liquid or gas from a region of high concentration to a region of lower concentration. If the nature of the substance undergoing the process is specified as a liquid, then the term used should be osmosis.
