Why do electrons constitute the flow of charges?

Meghna Thapar 5 years, 2 months ago

When a negative charge is brought near one end of a conductor electrons are repelled. When electric voltage is applied, an electric field within the metal triggers the movement of the electrons, making them shift from one end to another end of the conductor. Electrons will move toward the positive side. Electric charge can also be carried by ions in an electrolyte, or by both ions and electrons such as in an ionised gas. Electrons flow from negative terminal to positive terminal which results in current flow in opposite direction. ... In any circuit, electrons constitute the flow of charges.
