(i) The share of agriculture in providing employment and livelihood is 63% in 2001.
(ii) Declining share of agriculture in the GDP is a matter of great concern as any decline and stagnation in agriculture will lead to a decline in other sectors of the economy having wider implications for society.
(iii) Consideringtheimportanceof Agriculture in India, to modernise agriculture various organisations have been set up like the Indian Council of Agricultural Research* (ICAR), agricultural universities veterinary services, horticulture development, research and development in meteorology and weather forecasting.
(iv) Improvement of rural infrastructure.
(v) Public investment in Indian agriculture is being encouraged.
