Maddie thought that if she would have defended Wanda from being mocked by Peggy and the other girls,she would have became the next target to be teased by the girls because she was herself quite poor and wore clothes borrowed from Peggy.She thought that if she went against Peggy,Peggy would have told everyone that she wore her old clothes and would tease her like they did to Wanda.
