When chlorine reacts with cold and dilute sodium hydroxide, the following reaction takes place:
2NaOH + Cl2 ⟶ NaCl + NaClO + H2O.
Hence the products are Cl− and ClO−
When chlorine reacts with hot and concentrated sodium hydoxide, the following reaction takes place:
NaOH + Cl2 ⟶ 5NaCl + NaClO3 + 3H2O
Hence the products are Cl− and ClO3−
