The human appendix may be considered as a vestigial organ as it has been proved that the removal of the organ after infancy does not create any harm [1-3]. But the appendix has developed to the extreme in human and strategically placed to an important site at the junction of midgut and hindgut. The term "vermiform" comes from Latin and means "worm-shaped." The appendix used to be considered a vestigial organ, but this view has changed over the past decades. Recent research suggests that the appendix may serve an important purpose. In particular, it may serve as a reservoir for beneficial gut bacteria.
