It is also known as the black act.it was an oppressive act introduced by the British Government through the Imperial legislative council in 1919. It gave the government enormous powers to repress political activities and allowed detention to political prisoners without trial for 2 years . The purpose of the act was to curb the growing nationalist upsurge in the country .
