4^x- 4^x-1 = 24

4^x(1-1/4)= 24

4^x =24* 4/3 = 32 = 4^ (2+1/2)

x=2.5 or 5/2

Take 4^x-1 common we get:-

4^x-1(4-1) = 24

$\Rightarrow 4^{x - 1} = 8 \Rightarrow 2^{2 (x - 1)} = 2^{3} \Rightarrow 2 x - 2 = 3 \Rightarrow x = \frac{5}{2}$
