focal length = f magnification = 1/n now let object was placed at a distance u = x now we know that m = |v/u| => v = x/n Applying mirror formula 1/u+1/v = 1/f plugging the values of u,v and f we get -1/x + n/x = 1/f n-1/x = 1/f x = f(n-1) thus the object was placed at f(n-1) distance
