The Preamble is an introductory statement in a Constitution which states the reasons and the guiding values of the Constitution.
Significance of the Preamble:

The terms sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic, republic in the Preamble suggests the nature of the state.
The ideals of justice, liberty, equality, fraternity reflects the objectives of the Constitution.
It also contains November 26, 1949 as the date of adoption of the Indian Constitution.
It contains the philosophy on which the entire Constitution has been built.
It provides a standard to examine and evaluate any law and action of government.
