An integer is a whole number that can be either greater than 0, called positive, or less than 0, called negative. Zero is neither positive nor negative. ... Zero is called the origin, and it's neither negative nor positive. Positive integers are all the whole numbers greater than zero: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ... . Negative integers are all the opposites of these whole numbers: -1, -2, -3, -4, -5, ….The smallest of the numbers in the set {1, 2, 3, …} is 1. So, the number 1 is the smallest positive integer.
