Due to exposing of moisture and acid attack on the surface of metals there started forming of a powdery substance usually known as rust then the process is known as corrosion.

When some metals are exposed to moisture, acids etc., they tarnish due to the formations of respective metal oxide on their surface. This process is called “corrosion”.
1) 4 Ag + 2H₂S + O2 → 2Ag₂S + 2H₂O
2) 2 Cu + O₂→ 2 CuO
