As per the latest definition of acid, the substance which ionises in aqueous solution is called acid... But water does not ionises into its constituents die to which it does not show acidic character. .. HOPE IT WAS HELPFUL FOR YOU BUDDY...

acids do not show acidic behaviour in the absence of water because the dissociations of hydrogen ions form in acid occurs in the presence of water only it is the hydrogen ions that are responsible for the acidic behaviour
