Visual perspectives indeed are responsible for causing an effect on decoding a message when received. Visual perceptions over here may be described as 'illusions', the work of the brain. For instance, one I was trying to learn certain topics for my examination was near. The subject was that of criminal law. The book given to me for learning was a massive one in size and required much attention to detail to be understood properly. Due to the pressure of the upcoming exam and exhaustion of past exams, my vision tended to get quite blurry. This was probably because of fatigue and stress. I decided to take a break from the studying and focus on a book I was eager to read. This book was about a girl who has been facing criminal charges for the murder of her husband. She claimed to have suffered from domestic violence in the book. Because of the fact that I was trying to perceive the situation visually whilst reading, I actually left out some important details. My own opinion and views based on my judicial knowledge led me astray from the message of the book. This is how I realized that my decoding was impaired. I couldn't understand the real meaning of the book, the moral due to my perception. I believe it might have been due to visual closeness.

  • Visual perspective does affect decoding of messages. Visual perceptions are mostly illusions and can mask the actual coding of the message.
  • This normally happens while reading. Sometimes we tend to perceive something visually while reading and might leave out the important small words or message while decoding.
  • This also leads to reading a word wrongly leading to a wrong understanding of the meaning conveyed.
  • Perceptions are actually a set of unconscious processes that we process to decode a message. It is done by receiving and interpreting a message.
  • Visual perceptions can affect the actual decoding of messages due to visual closeness and visual discrimination.
