Let the required number be 'x'.
Now, the number is subtracted from -6 to obtain -14.
i.e. - 6 - x = -14
Taking like terms together,
x =14 - 6
x= 8
Therefore, 8 is the required number which is subtracted from -6 to obtain -14.
