Metallic oxides are basic in nature

When a metal reacts with oxygen it leads to the production of metallic oxides.
Usually, metallic oxides are basic in nature. It is because when they are reacted with water it leads to the formation of a basic solution.
For example, when calcium oxide is dissolved in water it leads to the formation of calcium hydroxide solution which is basic in nature.
