Reynold's number is a dimensionless parameter whose value decides the nature of flow of a liquid through a pipe. It is given by

Importance of Reynolds Number: If Re lies between 0 to 2000, the liquid flow is streamlined or laminar. If Re lies between 2000 and 3000 the flow of the liquid is unstable, i.e. it may change from laminar to turbulent and vice-versa. If Re > 3000, the liquid flow is turbulent.
