Decomposition reaction is a type of reaction in which the compound breaks into two or more products.

Examples of decomposition reaction is:

Decomposition of baking soda.
Decomposition of hydrogen peroxide.
Decomposition of carbonic acid.
When decomposition takes place through heat energy, it is called as thermal decomposition.

Illustration for decomposition by heating process:

When calcium carbonate is heated, carbon dioxide is evaporated with calcium oxide.
When water is heated, it produces monatomic oxygen and hydrogen.
