Zinc oxide is white in color but on heating, it turns into yellowbecause it loses oxygen reversibly at high temperature.

In ZnO , Zn2+ ions occupy interstitial sites. Electrons are trapped in interstitial sites as well to maintain the electrical neutrality. Zinc oxide is white in colour but on high temperature it loses oxygen reversibly and turns yellow in colour.
