Anu is right.Mixing of water with acid is exothermic reaction.If water is directly added to acid,heat is produced which may cause burn.

Anu Explanation: Always add acid to water as it is exothermic. Adding water to acid may cause the beaker to break or the solution to jump causing burns. Hence always add acid to water Hope that help ?
