- Genus is a group of species which are related and have less characters in common as compared to species.
- Family is represented by a group of related genera that are more similar to each other than with the genera of other families.
In the hierarchy of biological classification, genus comes above species and below family. In binomial nomenclature, the genus name forms the first part of the binomial species name for each species within the genus. E.g. ... Panthera is a genus within the family Felidae.
