Neutralisation is a chemical reaction in which acid and a base react quantitatively with each other. In a reaction in water, neutralization results in there being no excess of hydrogen or hydroxide ions present in the solution

A neutralization reaction is when an acid and a base react to form water and salt and involves the combination of hydrogen ions and hydroxyl ions to generate water. The neutralization of a strong acid and strong base has a pH equal to 7.

Example : When Sodium hydroxide is added to hydrochloric acid. Sodium chloride and water are formed.

NaOH + HCl ⟶ NaCl + H2O
