  • Imbibition is the process of adsorption of water molecules by the hydrophilic substances. Example- absorption of water by seeds (raisins) and dry wood.
  • Water potential gradient between the absorbent and the liquid imbibed, affinity between the adsorbant and the liquid are necessary for imbibition.
