The Goan people are quite attached to their colonial past under the Portuguese rule. They are nostalgic about their good old Portuguese days, the Portuguese people and their famous loaves of bread.

The Goans remember their past under the colonial rule with nostalgia and fond recollections:

  1. Goa had not gained Independence with the rest of India. This is because they were colonized by the Portuguese and not the British.
  2. In 1961 Goa gained freedom . The Portuguese were forced to leave.
  3. But even today the Goans remember their past under the colonial rule with nostalgia.
  4. They miss the good old Portuguese days especially the Portuguese bakery.
  5. The smell and taste of the Portuguese bread still linger on their palates.
  6. To keep the memories alive they have still kept the Portuguese bakeries.
  7. Every morning the baker called ‘Pader’ a Portuguese word, comes thudding his stick and announces the fresh breads.
  8. In rituals too the Goans stick to the items of the Portuguese bakery.
