Those changes in which no new substances are formed are called physical changes. But the properties like state, size, shape and colour changes. If we cut the piece of paper in four parts and again we cut the paper into another four pieces, we cannot join the pieces but the properties are changed. Those changes in which new substances are formed are called chemical changes. The properties of new substances formed in a chemical changes are entirely different from those of the original substances. Chemical changes are also called as chemical reactions. The chemical changes are permanent changes which can usually not be reversed to form the original substance. Large amount of energy is absorbed or lost during the process.
