Derive the expression for the velocity of a longitudinal wave in air.
(a) Two tuning forks A and B are vibrating together and 5 beats are heard in 1 s. if some wax is applied on A then 6 beats are heard. Calculate the frequency of B if frequency of A is 256 Hz?
(b) In a one end open organ pipe third harmonic is 450 Hz. What is the frequency of next harmonic?

The beat frequency is always equal to the difference in frequency of the two notes that interfere to produce the beats. So if two sound waves with frequencies of 256 Hz and 254 Hz are played simultaneously, a beat frequency of 2 Hz will be detected.
