The First Battle of Tarain was fought in 1191 between the Ghurids against the Chahamanas and their allies, near Tarain (modern Taraori in Haryana, India). The Chahamana king Prithiviraj Chauhan defeated the Ghurid king Mu'izz al-Din, who avenged this defeat at the Second Battle of Tarain a year later. It was fought between the Afghan forces of Ahmad Shah Durrani along with his local Rohilla and other Pathan and Oudh allies, against the Maratha Empire. The Durrani Afghan forces and their allies finally won and defeated the Marathas. The fall of the fortress of Bathinda awakened Prithviraj to the gravity of the strong Mohammed's invasion. He promised revenge and set out with an army against Mohammed. The Rajput army completely dominated the battle.
